John S. Stanik – Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer

John Stanik joined Calgon Carbon in 1991 as Director, Engineered Systems.  Later that year, he was selected to manage the company’s Big Sandy plant in Kentucky, the company’s largest activated carbon and reactivation facility.  During his tenure, John introduced self-directed work teams at the plant.   In 2000, John was promoted to vice president, manufacturing, with responsibility for Calgon Carbon’s activated carbon manufacturing operations worldwide.   In 2001, he was promoted to senior vice president, manufacturing and technology, adding responsibility for the company’s service operations worldwide and its research and development activities.  In 2002, John was named senior vice president, operations – Americas and Asia.  In this position, he directed the company’s carbon, service, and engineered solutions operations (eight facilities) in the Americas and Asia.  In April 2003, John was elected president and chief executive officer of Calgon Carbon.  He was elected to the company’s board of directors in October 2003, and in 2007 was elected chairman of the board.

Prior to joining Calgon Carbon, John spent 16 years in the engineering and construction business, primarily in heavy metals and chemicals.  He held positions at Davey McKee, PPG Industries, and Dravo/Still, gaining international experience in the Far East and Asia.

John earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
