Places in Top 5% of Companies Assessed
Calgon Carbon Corporation’s European subsidiary, Chemviron S.A., part of Kuraray Co., Ltd. (TYO: 3405), has earned an EcoVadis Gold Medal. The rating places the company in the top 5% of companies assessed by EcoVadis and provides customers with an independent benchmark of the company’s sustainability management practices.
“This recognition reflects the discipline our teams have brought to sustainability governance, consistent practices, and transparent reporting. Across Calgon Carbon’s global operations, our teams apply the same focus to strengthening sustainability management and reporting. Customers increasingly look for credible, comparable information about the sustainability practices of their suppliers, and Chemviron’s EcoVadis Gold Medal gives them a recognized, independent benchmark of our progress,” said Jenalle Brewer, Calgon Carbon Executive Vice President and Assistant General Manager.
The rating was awarded to Chemviron S.A. at the group level, the scope of the organization assessed by EcoVadis. A globally recognized provider of business sustainability ratings, EcoVadis evaluates companies across 21 sustainability criteria in four key areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The medal recognizes the quality of a company’s sustainability management system, including its policies, actions, and reported results.
Chemviron’s recognition comes as Calgon Carbon reports continued progress across its global sustainability strategy. The company’s 2026 Sustainability Report, now available online, details its 2025 performance. Highlights include:
- 83% of net sales from environmentally contributing products. The measure reflects the share of Calgon Carbon net sales associated with products and services that contribute to environmental applications and outcomes.
- More than 30% of raw materials from spent carbons, returning for reactivation. Global reactivation operations that support the circular reuse of activated carbon. Calgon Carbon thermally reactivates spent granular activated carbon so it can be returned to service, extending material use and reducing reliance on virgin carbon.
- 93% voluntary employee retention. The result is one indicator of Calgon Carbon’s focus on employee development and growth, engagement and workforce stability.
Reactivation is central to Chemviron’s European operations and to Calgon Carbon’s circular business model. The process restores spent activated carbon for reuse, helping customers extend the useful life of the material while reducing the need for replacement with virgin carbon. Chemviron operates activated carbon reactivation facilities across Europe, including its major facility in Feluy, Belgium.
