This Privacy Notice (“Privacy Notice“) applies to users (“you” or “your”) who access our website at or any other website (collectively, “Sites“) operated by Calgon Carbon Corporation and its subsidiaries, and displaying this Privacy Notice and, where applicable, who interact with us in other ways whether in-person, online, by email, or on the phone.
Calgon Carbon Corporation, with its affiliated companies (“Company,” “we” “us” or “our”) is a recognized leader in the activated carbon and reactivation industry for many liquid and vapor phase applications. Company provides business-to-business products and services to organizations and commercial customers. The majority of our products and services are not directly offered to residential customers; however, some of our products are offered to residential customers on third-party e-commerce stores. When you purchase one of our items from the third-party e-commerce website, Company is not involved in the sale of those items and Company does not collect any related personal data, as the term is defined below. Refer to the privacy notice on the e-commerce website to learn how the third-party e-commerce company uses or discloses your personal data.
This Privacy Notice applies to Calgon Carbon Corporation and any of its Affiliates that posts a physical or electronic copy of this Privacy Notice, including: Calgon Carbon Corporation, Chemviron Carbon GmbH (DE), Chemviron Carbon APS (DK), Chemviron France S.A.S. (FR), Chemviron Italia Srl (IT), Chemviron Carbon AB (SE), Chemviron Carbon Ltd. (UK), Chemviron Carbon, the French branch of Calgon Carbon Corporation (FR).
This Privacy Notice describes types of personal data we collect, how that data is used, to whom it is disclosed, and how it is protected. By accessing our Site, using our services, or interacting with us, you agree to the collection, use and processing of your information as described in this Privacy Notice.

1. Scope of this Privacy Notice
When Company collects and processes personal data, we are acting as a Data Controller, because we are the entity making the decisions about the purposes and means of the processing of your personal data. Data is collected in accordance with applicable laws including (i) the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation 2016/679) (“GDPR”); and (ii) all other existing or new applicable laws relating to or impacting on the processing of information of a living person and privacy).
The term “personal data” as used in this Privacy Notice refers to information that identifies, relates to, describes, or is reasonably capable of being associated or linked, directly or indirectly, to an identifiable individual. Personal data also includes any information that can be used on its own or combined with other information to identify, contact, or profile a specific individual. Not only does this Privacy Notice cover personal data collected in a business-to-business setting, it also applies in the employment context where required by applicable law.
This Privacy Notice does not apply to the following types of information:
Except where legally required by applicable law, this Privacy Notice does not apply to information we obtain about corporate customers, employees, agents, or service providers, suppliers, or other business associates.
Anonymized information. Information that has been modified in a substantial way so that it no longer can reasonably be used to identify or be linked to an identifiable individual.
Information collected by independent third parties. Our Sites may include features and services provided by third parties and may contain links to websites or social media that are not operated or controlled by Company. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content provided by these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy statements of these third parties. 2. What and How we Collect Personal Information
We may collect personal information from you, as (existing or potential): customer, consultant, supplier, vendor, agent, distributor, as an employee or as a representative of Company, as commercial partners (and affiliates), governmental bodies, authorities, certification bodies, and other stakeholders:
- Directly from you when you provide information to us or a Company Affiliate;
- From your communications with us by phone call, text message, e-mail, postal mail
- From your transactions with us or an Affiliate;
- From services, vendors, and other third-party companies with which we collaborate (“Business Partners”);
- From your visits to and interactions with our Sites collected via cookies and similar technologies placed by digital advertising networks, data analytics services, and social media (“Advertising Platforms”);
- From Advertising Platforms that collect and share information about the marketing and advertisements you have seen or clicked on;
- From other third-party sources that provide consumer data, including internet browsing data, such as information about your interests, demographic information, and marketing inferences.
Categories of Information We Collect
The categories of personal information we collected and used for our business and commercial purposes during the past 12 months included the following:
- Identifiers (such as name, postal address, email address, social security number, driver’s license number, passport number, internet protocol address, device identifier, online account name and other online identifiers).
- Consumer information (such as signature, telephone number, credit card, debit card, bank account and other financial information).
- Internet activity, including browsing history, search history, and a user’s interaction with a website, application, or advertisement (“Internet Usage Data”).
- Purchase and Transaction information might be collected by Company to process your order. We retain limited card information to record and track your purchases. However, this section does not apply to ChemvironS.A. and its affiliates. Chemviron and its affiliates do NOT collect or process transaction information and do not retain any card information.
- Audio/visual data collected on Company-owned properties for security purposes. Also, we record customer service calls and voicemails for quality assurance and training.
- Professional and employment-related information. Customer profile records including assessment forms, CV’s, references, background checks (e.g.: confirmation of qualifications) and interview This information is combined with various sources about, for example, your transactions, communications such as the content of emails, text messages, interactions with automated customer service features (such as a chatbot), and history of experiences with us.
- Your comments. If you post or allow us to post a comment on our Sites, blog, or “leave a comment” online or on third-party or social media sites, we collect or receive your comment, name and email address.
- Other information you may choose to provide. In the course of doing business with Company, you may provide information about your employment, education, family, age, gender, interests and preferences for home location and features, and other personal matters.
Some of the personal information we collect is classified as sensitive information under the privacy laws of some states (“Sensitive Information”). For example, we may collect transaction information to process your request or store your Social Security Number when applying for a job. When we request Sensitive Information, we will use it only for the purpose disclosed to you at or before the time the Sensitive Information was collected, a purpose we reasonably believe is compatible with and expected by you based on the original disclosed purpose, or as required or authorized by law. Unless we request Sensitive Information for a specific purpose, we ask that you not send or disclose any Sensitive Information to Company.
Automated Online Data Collection
When you visit our Sites, we and our third-party providers, including Advertising Platforms, automatically collect data about your interaction with our Sites transmitted by cookies and similar tracking technologies placed on your device or web browser. Examples of the types of data collected this way may include the following:
- Time and duration of your visits to the Sites;
- Pages viewed and functions used on the Sites;
- IP address or mobile device identifier;
- Randomly generated unique ID number;

5. WILL MY INFORMATION BE SHARED?
Your personal information may be accessible or shared for business purposes with the categories of third parties described below. We do not sell your personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration.
Affiliates. We may share your personal data within our group of companies, which means our subsidiaries and our ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries.
Service Providers. We engage third-party service providers to assist with various administrative and technology support services including hosting our Sites, cloud data management and storage, contact management, e-mail marketing, payment processing, and other business operations. Service providers may have access to your personal information to perform these tasks on our behalf and are not disclose or use personal information for any other purpose.
Business Partners. We may share some of your information with our business partners in order to execute a project. In addition, we may share your personal data with contractors, website hosting companies, and recruitment companies unless you opt out from our marketing communications or, where required by law, when you have not given consent.
Data Analytics Services. When you use our Site, we and third-party data analytics services we authorize collect your internet usage data. We also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Sites. These data analytics providers may also use the aggregated data they collect on our Site for their own purposes. Advertisers and Social Media. Cookies used on our Site allow us and advertising networks, social media companies, and other providers to collect and share information, and place or display ads that are personalized to you on our Site, as well as on other websites, apps, services, and devices you may use. Legal Process and Security. We may disclose personal information to third parties to detect and prevent fraud, enforce our Site’s Terms of Use and other agreements, comply with legal requirements, respond to and resolve claims or complaints, and for other risk management purposes, and to respond to law enforcement or legal process or a request for cooperation by a government entity.
Business Transactions. We may share personal information as we believe is reasonably necessary in connection with business transactions such as a transfer or sale to another entity of all or a portion of our stock or assets or a business reorganization.
6. International Transfers
Personal data will be transferred between the Company and its Affiliates, resulting in data transfers between the United States, European Economic Area, Latin-America and Asia.
For such transfers, the Company relies on both: (i) the decisions of the European Commission finding certain countries’ legal and judicial systems to offer adequate protection of personal data (‘adequacy decisions’), and (ii) the standard contractual clauses issued by the Commission implementing decision (EU) 2021/914 of 4 June 2021 on standard contractual clauses for the transfer of personal data to third countries pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council) (‘standard contractual clauses’).
When we transfer personal data to third parties outside the Company (be it data processors or separate data controllers) located in countries outside the European Economic Area, we will ensure that either (i) such countries provide an adequate level of protection under the applicable laws or that (ii) appropriate safeguards are in place such as the standard contractual clauses. 7. HOW IS MY DATA PROTECTED?
We take commercially reasonably precautions designed to protect the confidentiality and security of your personal data and prevent alteration, corruption or access by unauthorized parties.
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal data that you transmit to us and to protect such information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no Internet transmission or data storage is ever fully secure, and Company cannot guarantee that information transmitted via our websites or stored by us will remain confidential at all times. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that are designed to ensure that personal information is stored and treated responsibly.
Please bear in mind that, to the extent you are provided with access credentials to access portions of our websites, anyone you provide with your access credentials will also have access to your account and, possibly, to your personal data. If you use our Site, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your access credentials and for restricting access to your computer.
8. HOW LONG WILL MY DATA BE STORED?
We will retain your personal data for a reasonable period of time. If such duration cannot be determined, the following criteria will apply to determining the appropriate retention period:
- The purpose for which the data was collected;
- The likelihood of further contact or enquiries from you with which the data may assist, e.g. personal data collected in a marketing context;
- The length of any legal obligation that may attach to that data or the period within which claims might be brought relating to that data or products or services that we have provided; and
- The requirements of our regulators.
Data Collected for Marketing Purposes.
Whenever we collect your personal data in a marketing context (e.g. exchange of business cards, leads, referrals or recommendations via existing customers, introduction at a fair, etc.) we may preserve your personal data for a limited period of twelve (12) months in order to explore the opportunities of a potential collaboration, to send you follow-up messages in a reasonable manner and to find out about your needs or requirements. Any personal data of such prospects that have not become customers or confirmed their consent to being further contacted by email after this time, will be deleted from our files.
9. DO YOU LINK TO OTHER SITES?
For your convenience, the Site may include links to and from other websites. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy and security policies which you should review. We do not accept any liability or responsibility for these other websites or their policies.
10. USER CONTENT
The Site may provide feature where users can post or upload materials, comments, reactions and other content or information (collectively, “User Content”). If you post User Content on our Site, the User Content, as well as other information, may be available to all Site users. 11. HOW WE USE AND HOW YOU CAN RESTRICT COOKIES AND INTERNET TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
How we use Cookies. Our Site uses cookies and other tracking technologies, such as pixels, beacons and tags (collectively, “cookies”), to collect data, some of which may be identifiable to you, directly or indirectly. 13. GOOGLE ANALYTICS
We employ Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting, which provides us with personal data such as age, gender, and interests; however, as stated above, we do not share cookie data with any third parties, nor do we combine the directly identifiable information you voluntarily submit to us with the Site usage and demographic data we collect through Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting.
The Advertising Features collect specific visitor cookie data, such as the source, medium, and keyword used to visit the Site, and other information, such as how often users visit the Site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other websites they used prior to coming to the Site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit the Website, subject to your prior express approval where required by law. Although Google Analytics creates a cookie to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit the Site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Exercising your CCPA Rights. To learn more about how to exercise any of your CCPA rights, please see “Your Rights.” Please note that you may only submit a request to know twice within a twelve (12) month period. We cannot respond to your request or provide you with personal information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the personal information relates to you. We are legally required to verify your identity before we can fulfill your or your authorized agent’s request to know what personal information we collected about you, or what personal information we sold or shared with our Business Partners. We also must verify your identity to fulfill your request to delete or correct your personal information.
California Rights under “Shine the Light” Law. California residents may request a list of the types of customer information we provided to third parties for their direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of all third parties with which we have shared such information during the past calendar year. We will provide the information to you free of charge within 30 days of your request. To request that we provide you with such information, please send a written request to dataprotection.ccc@kuraray.com. Within thirty (30) days of receiving your request, we will provide you with the information at the address you designate in your request, which may be an email address or physical address.
